Push-up progression for beginners
The best push-up variation is the one you can repeat with control today and progress tomorrow.
Start at the right angle
Wall and elevated push-ups reduce the amount of bodyweight you need to move. Pick a height that lets you keep a straight body position and complete clean repetitions without rushing.
Make the same version stronger
Before moving to a harder variation, add a few good repetitions, use a slower lowering phase or pause briefly near the bottom. Better control is a real form of progression.
AniTrain keeps the same character moving with you as the training gets stronger, cleaner and more confident.
Lower the surface gradually
When an elevated push-up becomes comfortable, use a slightly lower sturdy surface. Small changes are easier to recover from than jumping from a wall directly to difficult floor sets.
Treat floor push-ups as another level
Once you can perform a few controlled floor repetitions, keep them clean and build volume over time. You can still use an easier variation afterward for additional practice.
